Press release of Mr. Toussaint Alain, Adviser to the President Laurent Gbagbo

Saturday, April 30, 2011

Alassane Ouattara announced the arrival in Abidjan, on 1 and 2 May 2011, a delegation of former Secretary-General Kofi Annan, South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former Irish President Mary Robinson.

This mission is nothing less than an operation of political communication and image orchestrated by Mr. Ouattara. One can not reasonably consider a process of reconciliation serious, credible and sincere as President Laurent Gbagbo will remain arbitrarily detained.

In addition, the First Lady Simone Gbagbo, a member of the National Assembly, former Prime Minister Pascal Affi N’Guessan, President of the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI), as well as several leaders of the Presidential Majority (LMP) are assigned to residence or forced into hiding or exile. Since Monday, 11 April 2011, when the overthrow of President Gbagbo by the French army, the forces of Mr. Ouattara reign of terror throughout the country: ethnic cleansing, extrajudicial killings, burned villages and refugee populations in the bush, kidnapping , rape, looting, theft, etc.. These barbaric crimes committed despite the presence of troops of UNOCI and Licorne are designed to ensure the safety of civilians.

MM. Annan, Tutu and Ms. Robinson could help lay the foundations of political dialogue and national cohesion in Côte d’Ivoire in facilitating the immediate release of President Laurent Gbagbo and all the personalities – political, military or civilian, illegally imprisoned by Mr. Ouattara, who must declare a cessation of atrocities and killings against supporters of PML.
